This afternoon, I participated in the Community Service organized by In-Kei. This time, we visited a place which is housing old folks, handicapped & mentally retarded kids. Youngest is 7 years old, and the oldest is 96 years old. Each of them has a sad background. This home is like 'alam flora'... abandoned folks are being cared for here. Eg, when Aunt A was sick and admitted to GH, after she recovered, she was abandoned by her children, she has no place to go..... Second example, an uncle who speaks good english, his eyes turned blind after a cataract surgery, since then , his family in Ipoh decided to dump him - until today, he still ask the volunteers to send him home to Ipoh, and he said he will pay for the transportation costs. I can't comprehend how the children can do such thing ..... sad sad sad !!

I know of a nursing home in Ipoh, probably the uncle can move there, nearer to family.
Honestly, the story you hear just one way only. Probably the children may have their own version...

agreed. again, the story tell us that even if we love our children so much, i will defintely not planning to have my kid to "feed" me when i am old :)

it would be great he can spend all his money and i can spend mine ;P peace for everyone... sometimes the traditions (eventhough is good in nature) do enforce unnecessary tension and burden...

bahija .. but we should not look at the consequence ..instead need to trace the root. Usually in the beginning, there may be poor relationship or communication between the parents and the children. Usually that's why the children became so willing to give them up!

So everyone wake up and nuture your children in a fair and right way. Don't teach them to be kiasu and kiasi ..becoz the effect will be on you when you grow older.
